2019-2020 review of EVENTS
Skating Stars Seminar
DFSC hosted the 4th Skating Stars seminar with World and Olympic choreographer Phillip Mills and U.S. Figure Skating National Champion and World competitor Max Aaron. Off the ice, we were lucky to learn off ice conditioning from USFS STARS coordinator and former DFSC National competitor Melissa Parker Vriner, and some great hair tricks from our own Suzie Nyquist. This was an amazing experience for all!
High School Competition
The 2020 High School Competition was held at Family Sports Center on Sunday, March 8th. There were nine teams comprised of students representing 13 different Colorado High Schools. We had a range of athletes from pre-preliminary to senior levels, all proudly skating for their teams. The competition included team maneuvers, a longest spiral and longest spin event, and plenty of cheering! A team spirit award was also part of the fun; the award being presented to the team displaying the most enthusiastic cheering, signs, and team attire. Win or lose, the teams all enjoyed the comradery and laughter!
Test Sessions
We love hosting our members at our test sessions, and it shows with a 77% passing rate! DFSC members took almost 300 tests this year, even after we had to unfortunately cancel 2 test sessions. We are proud to say that we had 6 Gold tests passed this year by DFSC members, what an accomplishment! We are anxious to catch up with everyone on August 28th and continue to provide an opportunity for our members skating growth!
Club Ice from Home
After the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we offered daily zoom classes to our club members to participate in while quarantining at home. We were able to work on jumps, spins, tricks, learning new dances, be inspired by our celebrity skaters, and much more! We want to say a special thanks to our Celebrity Skaters that participated: Morgan & Mariah Bell, Adam Blake, Max Aaron, Ryan Bradley, Braden Overett, and Ashley Clark!
Holiday on Ice
During the 2019 holiday season, DFSC sponsored 15 seperate holiday show/exhibitions that our members performed in through our Holiday on Ice program. This is an annual tradition that DFSC has been part of for close to 20 years now. It started with a show at Keystone Lake each year, and now includes all the local seasonal rinks throughout the Denver area as well. DFSC and CSC members look forward to performing their holiday programs each year. Registration starts in October each year, and it is one of our favorite perks of being part of the Denver Figure Skating Club.
Denver Invitational
The 2020 Denver Invitational was a huge success (on the first day) and then, unfortunately, was cancelled due to COVID-19. We are so grateful to the many club members who helped us prepare for the event and happy that our Artistic and Combined Dance Events were able to be held. Save the dates for DI 2021 at the new South Suburban Facility: March 11-14th, 2021.
Club Ice
DFSC sponsored several club ice sessions starting with a big kick off where skaters got to sample all that the club has to offer. Throughout the season, we had edge, power, spin, dance, and hockey classes. We had a lot of fun learning new skills and refreshing old ones.
COACH APPRECIATION
Our club wouldn’t be complete without our amazing coaches. Our DFSC coaches are the foundation of our club, and we are so lucky to have such a great group of people that are guiding the next generation of figure skating to success!
