2020 U.S. World Synchronized Skating Team Members

We would like to extend our congratulations to DFSC members Sarah Checkosky and Katey Nyquist. Sarah and Katey skated on Team USA for the Haydenettes Synchronized Skating Team in 2019-2020, competing internationally in Nottingham, England and Rouen, France. They became 2020 U.S. Champions, and were named to the 2020 U.S. World Team as Team USA 1. Unfortunately the 2020 World Synchronized Skating Championships in Lake Placid, NY were cancelled due to COVID-19. We are proud of Sarah and Katey for representing our club and Team USA well!

Theater On Ice (TOI) is a form of competitive figure skating. It combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theater and dance. The programs are judged by regular U.S. Figure Skating judges and are evaluated on technical merit and presentation with emphasis on originality, costuming, artistry, and musicality.

DFSC Members include: Lily Bacon, Sophie Corbett, Caroline Daly, Gaby Garamova, Isabella Garamova, Nora Gililand, Faye Huang, Lexi Masur, Meghan O’Neal, Hannah Shleyfer

2020 National Solo Dance Series

As the sport of figure skating grows through the ages, new disciplines and others have off-shoots. While Ice Dancing is still a loved sport to watch by many, there are many ice dancers that love this discipline but have not found a partner to compete with. Thus, Solo Dance was created. Competition options include: Patterned Dance, Combined Dance including one pattern dance (Novice and below) or short dance (Jr/Sr) and a free dance, and Shadow Dance consisting of a pattern dance skated by two skaters without connecting/holding.

The Solo Dance Series run from February through mid August each year. Skaters must register to have points at various competitions they compete at to be tracked; skaters can compete in more than one NSD type. The top 6 competitors at each level within each Section for each type (Pattern, Shadow, Combined) are invited to the National competition.

This year, Sirinya Frankel represented the Denver Figure Skating Club at the 2019 National Solo Dance Series. We are so proud of your hard work Sirinya!

Fielding teams from beginners to Masters, these teams have fun with their friends as they learn new programs each year! Led by Director of Synchronized Skating, Alicia Jordan, Denver Synchronicity has had another amazing year. This year they fielded 6 teams. 4 of those teams represented DFSC at the Pacific Coast Sectional Championships. The Intermediate, Adult, and Masters teams all advanced to the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships!

 Collegiate Skating

We are proud of our DFSC skaters that have chosen to stay involved in skating after graduating through the numerous Collegiate Skating Programs that are offered at colleges throughout the United States. We have DFSC members who have taken their skating to the next level while in college, at many different universities - Dartmouth, University of Denver, University of Nebraska, Adrian College, and so many more!

DFSC proudly supports our high school graduates to continue skating in college with a gift of $50.00 off a 4 year collegiate membership. For more information about collegiate skating opportunities, please visit: https://www.usfigureskating.org/skate/skating-opportunities/collegiate-skating.

Learn more about Collegiate skating programs

During our Club Ice at Home program during COVID-19 quarantine, we were lucky to have three of our DFSC Collegiate Skaters join us for a Zoom call about Collegiate Skating. Lauren Banko, Sofia Daley, and Natalie Johnson have 3 very different collegiate skating experiences, and were able to give our DFSC skaters a lot of great information and insight about skating in college! The below video is a recording of our call, and we would encourage all DFSC skaters who are thinking about skating in college to watch!
